Christmas Door Wreaths
One traditional front door décor is the Christmas wreath. You can make your own wreath, purchase one from a landscaping store or Christmas tree farm, or buy and artificial wreath that will last you for years, saving you money in the long run.
If you really want to give your guests a warm welcome, then a beautiful lighted wreath done all in gold is an excellent choice.
You can just place a wreath on your door as the sole decoration or add a nice garland or lights around your door frame for added décor and to make your front door look much more festive.
You can even place two or three wreaths of different sizes on the front door, the smallest wreath on the top and the largest on the bottom.
If you have the lighted gold wreath on your door and a window or two beside your door you can string lights around the window and hang gold balls from the curtain rod to make for a glittery gold greeting for guests.

Less Traditional and Unique Christmas Door Decorations
If you are looking for front door décor that is less traditional than wreaths or door covers, here are some decorating ideas that may fire your imagination.
Decorative Sleds
Try placing a couple of decorative sleds on the door. You can add to the décor by taking a real sled, placing a basket on it and filling it with foil or plastic-wrapped gift (empty boxes) and set that beside the door. You can even string LED lights around the gift sled for a more festive touch.
Jingle Bells
Another great idea is to use a curtain rod attached to your door and tie large jingle bells at various lengths along the curtain rod. To add a bit of light to the doorway, you can string Christmas lights around the door frame, or wrap a lighted garland around the curtain rod before adding the bells.
Oversized Christmas Stocking
Consider hanging an oversized Christmas stocking from your front door. This may work best if your door is sheltered. You can even find a doormat to match the stocking to carry your design through.

Go With a Theme
If you decorated your Christmas tree or home using a theme, then carry that theme through on Your Christmas door décor as well.
When decorating your front door to go with the theme of your home, you can simply choose one or two elements of your interior theme and repeat that in your door's decorations.
Look for unique ways of making the most of your theme. For example, if you used red bows on your Christmas trees or part of your interior décor, then use a much larger bow in place of a wreath on your front door with a welcome sign.
You can also string a lighted garland around your door frame with red bows attached to the garland or red berries on the garland with a bow at the top and both end of the garland.
If you chose a snowman theme, then build or place plastic snowmen next to your door with a pair of large mittens on the door.
The main principle when decorating your front door for Christmas is for you to have fun and choose decorations that will help you keep the Christmas spirit while providing a fun or warm welcome for your guests.
